Unknown people killed on Thursday Renamo’s head of organisation in the Tsangano district of central Mozambique, João Abrão, a spokesman for the main opposition party, António Muchanga, told Lusa on Friday.
According to António Muchanga, the head of the Renamo (National Resistance Mozambican) organisation was abducted at night in the locality of Mapanje, Tete province, by people who were transported in a white vehicle and his body was found riddled with bullets in the Nhodola mountain, a few meters from the village of Tsangano.
The Mozambican police have not yet commented on the incident.
Although the killers of Renamo’s Tsangano official are not known, political assassinations were one of the hallmarks during the confrontations between the Mozambican Defence Forces (SDF) and Renamo in the wake of political violence that followed the general elections of 2014 until the truces in force since December.
Earlier this month, the Renamo president announced the extension of the truce – in effect since December – in clashes with the FDS for another 60 days, expressing confidence in a definitive agreement.

Negotiations have as agenda items the demilitarisation of Renamo, the depoliticisation of the FDS and the drafting of a law proposal aimed at the decentralisation of the country’s provinces.
Peace in Mozambique has been under constant threat in recent years due to cleavages between Frelimo and Renamo.
Between 2013 and the end of 2016, the country was plagued by acts of violence opposing the FDS and the armed wing of Renamo, within the context of the main opposition party challenging the 2014 electoral process .
