Five more co-defendants in the so-called ‘hidden debts’ case had been released by Monday, on payment of bail totalling 11,136,000 meticais.
These are co-defendants Manuel Renato Matusse, advisor to former President of the Republic, Armando Guebuza, who paid 6.1 million meticais; Maria Inês Moiane, secretary to the former Head of State, who paid three million; Khessaujee Pulchand (1.2 million), Sérgio Namburete (522,000 meticais) and Zulficar Ali Esmail Ahmad (309,000). Fabião Mabunda, of whom 10.1 million meticais bail was demanded, remains in jail.
Those mentioned above join Crimildo Manjate, Naimo Quimbine, Mbanda Henning, Sidónio Sitoe and Simione Mahumana, who were released under Statement of Identity and Residence (TIR) restrictions, pending trial.
The March 9 ruling however subjects the defendants to appear before the court weekly on Mondays at 9:30 a.m..
Furthermore, the co-defendants must not change their residence or be absent from them for more than five days without authorisation, and are forbidden to communicate with the other defendants in the case by any means, direct or indirect.
They are also ordered to not leave the country without prior authorization from the court; to hand over their passports or any other travel document which they hold; and to submit to police surveillance.
Co-defendants Bruno Tandane Langa, Armando Ndambi Guebuza, Gregório Leão, Angela Leão, Cipriano Mutota, Teófilo Nhangumele and António Carlos do Rosário remain in prison.
Judicial authorities are currently seeking to identify a space large enough to host, later this year, the trial of the 20 co-defendants, on charges of the moral and material authorship of 93 crimes.
