The United Nations (UN) has reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating with Mozambique in the implementation of sustainable development directives and combating terrorism. Such was the position adopted yesterday during the ceremony celebrating the organisation’s 77th anniversary.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation was the venue chosen to celebrate 77 years of the existence of the United Nations and 45 of cooperation with Mozambique.
In a session which brought together the Mozambican government, heads of diplomacy and UN representatives, the UN interim resident coordinator in Mozambique highlighted that the UN system in Mozambique will continue to work towards sustainable development.
“In the midst of the new UN cooperation framework for the sustainable development of Mozambique, we want to reiterate that we remain committed to supporting institutions and civil society to promote the well-being of all Mozambicans, in particular the most vulnerable,” said Berangere Boell.
Mozambique’s deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation once again thanked the organisation for the support of UN member states in the election of the country as a non-permanent member of the organisation’s Security Council.
The theme chosen by Mozambique for the next two years, according to Manuel Gonçalves, reaffirms the determination to defend dialogue and peaceful resolution in the country, promoting prevention and peacekeeping actions.
