UBA Africa CEO Abiola Bawuah has visited Mozambique to strengthen institutional relations and establish new strategic partnerships to boost the growth of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) led by young people and women.
While in the country, in addition to interacting with business leaders and investors, Abiola Bawua held high-level meetings with representatives of the government and central bank, and with Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM).
Commitment to economic development
Bawuah’s visit is part of United Bank for Africa’s (UBA) commitment to expanding its role as a facilitator of economic development in Mozambique.
According to its CEO, UBA Africa aims to create a more inclusive ecosystem that allows SMEs to be strengthened and access innovative financial solutions.
“We see enormous growth potential in Mozambique and we want to help transform challenges into opportunities for a more prosperous and inclusive future,” said Bawuah, highlighting UBA’s commitment to financing strategic projects.
High-level meetings and partnership opportunities
During the visit, the CEO of UBA Africa met officials from the Bank of Mozambique, where she exchanged views on the macroeconomic environment and the role of the banking sector in stimulating business growth.
Abiola Bawuah also met the Minister of Economy and Finance, Basílio Muhate, to discuss ways of cooperating to leverage financial inclusion.
She also met Minister in the Presidency for Civil Affairs, Ricardo Sengo, with whom she discussed investment opportunities and the development of financial infrastructures.
The UBA CEO also met with the National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH) and with mining company Vulcan, exploring financing possibilities for strategic projects in the energy and mining sectors.
Partnership with the CFM – Mozambique Ports and Railways
One of the most significant meetings was with the management of the Mozambique Ports and Railways (CFM), a company that is essential for the country’s logistics and trade. Bawuah highlighted UBA’s interest in collaborating in the modernization of the railway and port infrastructure, considering the sector essential for the dynamization of the Mozambican economy.
“There are great opportunities in the railway sector and we are very interested in collaborating to develop solutions that boost trade and regional connectivity,” said the CEO.
Promoting women entrepreneurs
The visit also reinforced UBA’s commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs in Mozambique. Through specialized financing, mentoring and financial education programs, the bank has provided the necessary tools for Mozambican entrepreneurs to expand their activities, create jobs and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
UBA has a long tradition of supporting SMEs led by young people and women, offering accessible lines of credit and digital banking solutions that facilitate business management and drive financial inclusion.
For United Bank for Africa, Abiola Bawuah’s visit to Mozambique reaffirms the strategy of consolidating itself as a key partner for the country’s economic development. The pan-African bank states that with concrete initiatives and strategic partnerships, UBA strengthens its commitment to providing innovative financial solutions, fostering financial inclusion and supporting essential sectors of the Mozambican economy.
From another perspective, the negotiations initiated during this visit could result in new investments and programs that could potentially benefit not only the financial sector, but the entire economic structure of the country, driving sustainable and inclusive growth.
