Mozambique: Two dead in traffic accident on the N4
Two Portuguese citizens are being held by police in Zambezia for forging documents in order to acquire Mozambican identity cards.
The pair, whose identities were not revealed, were seized last week when they applied for identity cards, and are just one of the 29 cases involving Malawian, Tanzanian and Zimbabwean citizens registered by the authorities, chiefly in Zambezia.
The figures were revealed by National Directorate of Civil Identification spokesman Alberto Sumbane, who added that last week alone, 44 cases of falsification of birth certificates were recorded.
According to Sumbane, Zambezia is the worst offender with 39 cases, followed by Maputo province with three and the city of Maputo with two. Sumbane added that 52 cases of birth certificate duplication were recorded in the reference period, 50 in Zambezia and two in Gaza.
