Mozambique: Niassa Lion Project says two scouts are still missing
The Mozambican police have arrested two poachers in the district of Mossuril, in the northern province of Nampula. During the operation, the police also seized a hunting rifle.
According to the Nampula provincial police spokesperson, Zacarias Nacute, “these individuals were caught whilst hunting. After further investigation, it was discovered that they were hunting without a licence”.
This was the second time this year that the provincial police had recovered a hunting rifle – the first was captured only last week.
Speaking during his regular press briefing, Nacute added that last week a large fire broke out in the neighbourhood of Natikiri resulting in the death of a 73-year-old woman. The cause of the fire is still not known.
In the same period, there were eight traffic accidents which resulted in five deaths and six serious injuries. Zacarias explained that a preliminary assessment suggested that the main cause of the accidents was excessive speed. In addition, a youth drowned whilst swimming off the beach at Micupi, in Mecuburi district.
