“Two Mozambican firms” mull building oil pipeline to Zambia

Two Mozambican firms have expressed interest in building an oil pipeline from Mozambique to Zambia, Zambian media reported Thursday.
“The two investors want to build an oil pipeline from Mozambique to Zambia. We are still waiting for feedback to give us a clear position of the establishment of the oil pipeline,” Zambia’s Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Margaret Mwanakatwe was quoted by the Times of Zambia as saying.
She said investment in the construction of oil pipelines was high on the government agenda, quoted the newspaper.
Currently, Zambia only has one pipeline which runs from Tanzania to Ndola city in Copperbelt province, where the country has its sole oil refinery plant.
Mwanakatwe said Zambian-registered company, Basalu Ba Liseli Resources, was on course with its plans to build another oil pipeline from Angola to the Zambia.
The oil pipeline will run from Sonaref Refinery in Lobito, Angola, to the Zambian capital, Lusaka.
Zambia currently imports all its petroleum requirements, mainly from the Middle East, through the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
