Two lions that had been terrorising residents Magude and Moamba districts, Maputo province, have been captured and moved to a hunting area in Marromeu district, Sofala province.
The big cats had escaped from a conservation area at the Mapulanguene administrative post in Magude, creating panic among residents, and devouring goats and devastating crops in their hunting forays.
Radio Mozambique heard that some cattle in Magude district also failed to escape the fury of the marauding felines.
A spokesperson for the district economic activities service in Moamba, Gonçalo Fernando, explained the situation, describing the areas affected as now “safe”.
