Mozambique: Drugs seized in Beira
O País
Two individuals were detained this Sunday in Beira for making false statements when registering to vote.
The former did not present any documents or witnesses and was detained at the voter registration station in the 7 de Abril Primary School in the Chipangara neighbourhood.
When officials from Frelimo, Renamo and MDM questioned him, he said that he had only been in Beira for two weeks, having just left Tete, and that he had no fixed residence.
He explained that he was staying in Inhamizua neighbourhood, but was not registered there because nobody wanted to stand witness.
The other man was arrested in the Palmeiras neighbourhood for presenting an identity document about which he could not answer any questions. Both individuals were referred to Beira second police station.
Voter registration bodies in Sofala visited the registration stations to establish the cause of the arrests of Monday morning, and promised to comment in due course.
