Two children have been attacked by crocodiles in the Malema River in Nampula in the last seven days.
The attacks took place under the railway bridge near the municipal village of Malema where many people wash clothes and collect water for domestic consumption.
In the first attack, the child was devoured by seven of the reptiles. In the latest attack, this Sunday, a 10-year-old girl lost her left arm but after fighting off the crocodile, managed to swim 500 meters before being rescued by fishermen nearby.
The news was provided to Rádio Moçambique by Malema’s District Director of Economic Activities, António Hipo, who appealed to parents to be watchful when they take their children to the river.
