Two attackers dead, five members of security forces injured in Cabo Delgado clash
Two people died in a clash between an armed group and members of the defence and security forces in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, on Sunday night, local sources told Lusa on Monday.
The clash occurred in the village of Marere, administrative post of Mbau, in an area of bush in Mocimboa da Praia district. The two dead were members of a group armed with machine guns which reportedly attempted to rob a defence and security forces camp from where patrols in the area set out. Five members of the security forces were injured.
The violence in Cabo Delgado started with an attack on the village of Mocímboa da Praia in October 2017 by a group based in a local mosque preaching insurgency against the state. Since then, the groups have attacked remote villages in the province, leaving an undetermined number of dead and hundreds displaced.
