US President Donald Trump congratulated his Mozambican counterpart, Daniel Chapo, on the 50th anniversary of national independence, which will be celebrated next Wednesday (25).
A press release from the Presidency sent to AIM today quotes Trump as saying that the resilient Mozambican people and the country’s vast natural resources offer many opportunities for partnerships that promote the security and prosperity of Mozambique and the United States.
“US investments in Mozambique’s natural gas, critical minerals, internet and communications, and agriculture sectors, as well as our people-to-people ties, demonstrate the growing opportunities in the US-Mozambican relationship,” reads the message from the US President.
“We look forward to working with Mozambique in pursuit of mutual goals,” Trump concludes.
At the launch of the festivities for the 50th anniversary of national independence, Chapo urged Mozambicans to join the broad movement to celebrate the nation, national unity, tolerance, citizenship, peace and inclusion, by participating in various political, economic and social, sporting, artistic, academic and scientific, cultural and recreational activities.
The Mozambican Head of State described the celebrations as a profound reflection on the gains, achievements and accomplishments made during the 50 years, highlighting the need for Mozambicans to seize the moment to reflect on how to overcome the challenges the country has faced in the last 50 years and how to make Mozambique a prosperous, democratic and peaceful society in the next 50 years.
