Five persons were injured to varying degrees in attacks on two freight trucks in Gondola district on Tuesday morning.
Gondola District Hospital says that those seriously injured are out of danger.
The first attack, at around 3:00 a.m., targeted a timber lorry driven by Ernesto Salomão Buci who, after being shot, was taken to Chimoio Provincial Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
“I was leaving Chimoio for Inchope when I suddenly heard gunshots fired on my truck, and was hit in the foot,” Buci explained.
The second attack occurred at 5:00 a.m., this time targeting a food truck travelling between Beira and Chimoio.
Addressing the state of the wounded, Gondola District Hospital director Armando Amadeu said: “We received three victims from the gunshot attacks in the Zimpinga area. Of these, two victims have minor injuries and one was seriously injured.”
