A truck loaded with stones, travelling from the Maputo city centre to Katembe, overturned this morning almost at the far end of the Maputo-Katembe bridge, blocking the causeway.
Traffic entering and leaving Katembe was restricted by the stones scattered all over the road.
Quoted by the newspaper ‘O País’, the truck driver said that the accident occurred when a car, a Wildtrak, overtook him and braked suddenly.
“The car overtook and then stopped in front of me. In trying to brake, but was unable to control the vehicle and ended up overturning. The other car did not stop – it just kept going,” the driver said.
According to the truck driver, the stones were being delivered to the Cultural Centre of the Bank of Mozambique.
The Traffic Police said they had yet to determine the cause of the accident, and were at the scene only to direct traffic, so far.
