At least 20 people died early on Sunday night, in a crash between a cargo truck and a semi-collective passenger transport vehicle ‘Chapa’ along National Highway Number Seven (N7), in Catandica, district headquarters of Báruè, Manica province.
According to Miramar, there were 21 people on board the ‘Chapa’, 20 of whom died on the spot. Two persons – one of whom the driver of the cargo truck – were seriously injured.
The head-on crash was caused by a loss of priority by the truck that moved out of its lane, to avoid the smoke caused by an uncontrolled fire. After the collision, the “’Chapa’ which then caught fire, killing 20 occupants who burned to death, Notícias reports.
The ‘Chapa’ was on the Chimoio – Guro district route and the cargo truck was heading in the opposite direction.
