At least 13 people lost their lives and five others were injured, four of them seriously, in an accident in the city of Beira, Sofala province, this Thursday morning.
The accident, which occurred at around 4:50 a.m. in the Inhamizua area, involved a minibus, in which the victims were travelling, and a truck, which Traffic Police say cut in front of it.
Among the fatalities is the minibus driver, whose body was severely damaged by the impact with the truck’s trailer.
The bodies of the deceased are in Beira Central Hospital morgue, the same health facility where the survivors are being assisted, the Traffic Police’s Marito Peralto told ‘O País’.
On the phone, Peralto said that the cause of the accident was the truck driver failing to give due priority to the minibus, combined with the lack of visibility due to rain falling at the time.
The minibus was travelling in the Beira-Muxúguè direction, and the truck on the Nhamatanda section to Beira.
