Circulation on the road connecting the districts of Montepuez in the south and Mueda in the north of Cabo Delgado province was interrupted on Wednesday and Thursday, Miramar reports.
The poor condition of the road, which is currently the main alternative to the N380 for accessing the northern districts of Cabo Delgado, is cited as the main cause.
Continuing rain on that stretch has caused more and bigger potholes to appear.
It is in this scenario that a passenger transport bus was stuck on the approach to the bridge located near the village of Newara since 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (06-04), completely blocking the road.
Several other vehicles ended up getting stuck as well.
Passengers had to spend the night at the site while trying to dig out the cars blocking the road.
Some vehicles departing from Nampula for Mueda and vice versa had their journeys interrupted by the situation.
The unanimous request is that the government rehabilitate the road as quickly as possible, it being the main alternative route connecting northern Cabo Delgado with the rest of the country.
