Mozambique and China expressed, this Monday (26), their interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the sectors of trade and industry.
This took place during an audience that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Lucas, granted to the Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Liu Yuxi, who is in Mozambique for a three-day visit.
In addition to exchanging views on the increase in bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade and industry, both welcomed the excellent state of Sino-Mozambican relations, which has a visible impact on the continued strengthening of political, economic and social exchange.
The head of Mozambican diplomacy, Maria Lucas, praised the growth in political and diplomatic cooperation, which has been reflected in the exchange of visits at different levels, especially presidential visits.
“We will continue to work, as we have already said, but just to say that this year we are celebrating 50 years of Mozambique’s independence,” said the minister.
“We will have a celebration here in Maputo, but there will also be a big celebration in China,” she added.
Minister Lucas said that the Mozambican president, Daniel Chapo, was already preparing for his visit to China in 2026.” So, there is plenty to celebrate , and that is why your coming here, your arrival here, is very welcome by the government, by the party, but also by the Mozambican people,” Minister Lucas said.
She further acknowledged the continued support that China has provided to Mozambique in various sectors, with emphasis on the areas of humanitarian assistance, food security and infrastructure. The minister also thanked the Chinese representative for the support provided for the materialization of the President of the Republic’s Plan for the First 100 Days of Governance.
“His Excellency President Daniel Chapo asked me to welcome our Special Representative to Mozambique and also to inform him that he is visiting the province of Gaza and also to inform him that his 100-day plan was successful because of the support that China gave,” Minister Lucas said.
“In addition to the support that China gave, in relation to financial support for various areas of humanitarian aid, we also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Mozambique Surgical Centre, which will be the largest in Mozambique,” the minister added.
