The list of nominees for the fourth annual African Legal Awards, promoted by British publication Legal Week, is out, and Tomás Timabane Advogados (TTA) and Couto Graça e Associados (CGA), two of the most prestigious law firms in Mozambique, are on it.
Both have been nominated for African Law Firm of the Year – Small Practice, along with AB & David, Afriwise, GLA – Gabinete Legal Angola (PLMJ Network) and Ngassam Fansi & Mouafo Avocats Associés.
TTA and CGA are also nominated for the Innovation award, along with Absa Bank, Afriwise, Bowman Gilfillan Africa Group, Norton Rose Fulbright, Vieira de Almeida & Associados (VdA), Webber Wentzel and White & Case.
CGA has been nominated for the Environmental, Energy and Natural Resources Team of the Year, along with Baker & McKenzie, Bowman Gilfillan Africa Group, Chadbourne & Parke, Dentons, Hogan Lovells, Orrick, Webber Wentzel/Linklaters, Werksmans and White & Case.
TTA has also been nominated in two other ccategories this year: Social Responsibility and Diversity Initiative.
The awards recognise the work in Africa of both large international and independent companies, and the ceremony will take place on Friday 9 September in Johannesburg’s Wanderers Club.
A major feature of these awards is the credibility of the judging process as the winners are decided by an independent judging panel made up of general counsel and other senior members of the legal community.
