Mozambique team boxer Rady Adosinda Gramane and Zenfira Magomedalieva (ROC Russian Olympic Committee) will meet on Saturday (July 31) in the middleweight quarterfinals following separate split decision wins on Wednesday.
Gramane turned away a stubborn challenge from Erika Pachito (Ecuador) to prevail on four of the five cards. All five judges scored the bout 29-28, four in favuor of Gramane and one going to Pachito.
The win required Gramane to win the third and final round on four of the five cards. She will next face Magomedalieva, who advanced after eliminating USA’s Naomi Graham from competition. Graham, the ninth-ranked boxer in the IOC Boxing Task Force (BTF) middleweight rankings, snaps a six-match win streak dating back to February 23
Magomedalieva, ranked fifth by the IOC BTF, ’is a two-time world champion with her 2019 light heavyweight title and 2014 heavyweight title wins.
Magomedalieva began her amateur career as a heavyweight after having previously bulked up while as a shot putter, before working her way down the scale.
