Igor Mogne competed in the first round of the 400 metre freestyle this Saturday, finishing second with 3:56.56 minutes, 2:46 seconds slower than the winner, Chilean Eduardo Cisternas, who swam 3:54.10 minutes.
Igor Mogne started well, finishing the first 100 metres in first position, but as the distance increased the Mozambican swimmer lost impetus, beaten by the Chilean’s better race management.
In the end, Mogne finished in second place in Series 1, failing to reach the semi-finals.
Igor Mogne started his career with Desportivo Maputo and also represented the Maputo Dolphins. Currently with Sporting de Portugal, Tokyo 2020 was his second Olympic participation.
All of the first three swimmers in the second series of the 400 metre freestyle beat Mogne’s time, Alfonso Vene with 3:47:14, Martin Slo with 3:52:56 and Joaquim Per with 3:52:94.
Mogne also failed to match his 3:54.90 best in the distance, achieved in Gwangju, South Korea, which earned him the invitation to this edition of the competition.
