The Timbila Muzimba return to the stage after a European tour in July with a show called The Comeback at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre in Maputo tonight (Thursday).
Speaking to Radio Mozambique, lead singer Chene Wa Gune says the concert is a way of reliving the group’s good times on the Old Continent, as well as serving to celebrate the group’s 21st anniversary.
Timbila Muzimba was born from a cultural and artistic vision among a group of young Mozambican musicians and dancers in August 1997 in Maputo’s Unidade 7 neighbourhood. Based in the native Machope tradition, the group is dedicated to a passionate and continuous exploration of the diverse traditions of Mozambican music and dance.
With unsurpassed artistic authenticity, natural virtuosity and the captivating energy of youthful spontaneity, Timbila Muzimba bring the magic, depth and intensity of Mozambican music and dance to the stage in a spirit of joyful renewal and loving dialogue with tradition.
