Mozambique coach Chiquinho Conde calls Algeria clash the most important in nation’s history - ...
It was a dream for Mozambican basketball players Carla Covane and Chanaia Pinto to represent Quinta dos Lombos in their under-19 side, as it was for Carla Budane to don the Algés sweater.
The first two were crowned district champions of Lisbon for the second time, after helping Quinta dos Lombos to beat Algés 59-42 in the third game of the final phase of the under-19s championship. In the first two matches of the final phase, Quinta dos Lombos beat Benfica 72-50 and Carnide 63-39.
Of the Mozambican players in the championship, Pinto has netted most balls.
Carla Covane was in good form in this game, achieving a ‘double-double’ (15 points and 20 rebounds), and being named best player of the match. Carla Budane in turn was considered the best post of the under-19 Lisbon championship, making an extremely positive impression.
On the way to the NBA
On February 15, Pinto travels to the US, where she will participate in an NBA training camp. The opportunity of a lifetime to gain experience and springboard to the next level was secured on the basis of Chanaia’s age, height and talent.
