The 6th section of the Sofala Judicial Court today (05-09) sentenced three men to ten and eight years in prison for attempting to kidnap a businessman in 2021, Miramar reports.
Samir Ayob was sentenced to ten years in prison, while his co-defendants Manuel Chico and Alberto Francisco were handed terms of eight years.
Reading the sentence, Judge Martins Muchiguerra said records on the defendants’ cell phones and the testimony of the owner of the residence that was reportedly to serve as the place of captivity in the foiled kidnapping, and who identified defendant Manuel Chico, weighed heavily in the conviction.
The defendants accepted the verdict, agreeing to serve their sentences willingly, not because they accept that they’re guilty but because – as they tell Miramar below – they believe that prison is the only place where they will be protected from alleged police persecution.
