Health authorities in Maputo province have the feeling that the health posts and centres there do not correspond to the needs of its inhabitants.
To address this concern, the provincial director plans this year to open a health centre in Nkobe, but at the moment there is a shortage of equipment and personnel.
According to Yolanda Santos, Director of Health in Maputo Province, the sector has received assurances from cooperation partners regarding the equipping of the health unit, which will serve about 42,000 inhabitants.
Still lacking is the sum of three million meticais (around US$47,211) to equip the health centre. While the amount has not yet arrived, the inauguration is still scheduled for the second half of this year.
Currently, Maputo province has 108 health units.
