Mozambique: About 7.8 million out of a population of 32 million have Internet access
Three people were killed and 23 Injured following eight suspected Renamo attacks last week in central Mozambique, the Mozambican police said on Tuesday.
“In total, between 5 and 11 March, we registered eight attacks by Renamo [Mozambique National Resistance], which caused three deaths,” spokesman of the General Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) Inacio Dina said at the weekly police press conference in Maputo.
The victims included a three-year-old child and, according to Dina, the incidents recorded in Zambezia, Manica and Sofala provinces in central Mozambique caused substantial damage.
“It is a sad situation, and deserves the condemnation of all stakeholders,” Dina said.
In addition to escorting vehicles on the Save-Muxungué section of the N1, defence and security forces are positioning themselves at black spots where incidents involving armed Renamo men have been most frequently recorded, Dina said.
“We are positioned at these points to ensure that people can travel freely, ensuring their security in the face of these criminal actions,” the police spokesman said, adding, without further details, that people had already been detained in connection with the attacks.
