The Commander-in-Chief of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique explained on Tuesday that Mozambique currently has four Defence and Security Forces Operational Theatres, Radio Mozambique reports.
Of the two new Operational Theatres, adds the same source, one is in the southern region of the country, to come into action if and when there are major events there, and the other, called the Special Operational Theatre, is in Afungi, Palma district, Cabo Delgado.
Bernardino Rafael explained that the commander-in-chief of the Defence and Security Forces, President Filipe Nyusi, had ordered the creation of the Afungi Special Operational Theatre to guarantee the security of the natural gas resources in that part of the country.
“The country [currently] has, in practice, four operational theatres: the Northern Operational Theatre; the Central Operational Theatre, since a long time ago and which changes from stage to stage; the Southern Operational Theatre, which the Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Defence of Mozambique activates whenever there are major events. [And,]very recently, he [the President] also instructed for the creation of the Afungi Special Operational Theatre, taking into account the liquefied natural gas complex that we have in Palma, to guarantee the country’s economic interest,” Bernardino Rafael said, quoted by Rádio Moçambique.
Bernardino Rafael was speaking this Tuesday at the Academy of Police Sciences (ACIPOL) during a patenting ceremony for senior officers and police superintendents. He noted that some of the officers patented would be serving in the country’s active operational theatres, and called for their complete commitment and dedication.
Of the newly patented officials, the spotlight was on São Tome national Abdiel Carvalho and Mozambican Niu Gin, a Chinese-trained martial arts instructor.
Abdiel Carvalho said training in Mozambique had been a good experience, while martial arts instructor, Mozambican Niu Gin, said that the time spent in the academy had greatly increased his knowledge.
