The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) have identified the men who attacked 64-year-old Michael Tatakas near the Belita area, Alto Maé, in Maputo, last Thursday.
PRM spokesman Orlando Mudumane said at Monday’s weekly briefing that the gunmen were people close to the Greek customs broker, and the police were already on their tail.
Mr Tatakas is still in medical care.
This shooting occurred on Thursday (January 21) just after 8a.m. in the centre of Alto Mae, Maputyo. According to reports, the victim’s housekeeper, Celeste Argentina, arrived at Tatakas’ block of flats just after 7a.m. and phoned the victim in order to request access to the property. However, that morning, Argentina discovered two men outside the block of flats.
The men briefly conversed with Argentina, asking her if the company Sigal Services was located within the building.
Eventually, after an hour of phoning the victim with no answer, another resident opened the gate for Argentina. Argentina proceeded to Tatakas’ apartment and noticed that the two men were now loitering inside the building.
According to unconfirmed reports, Argentina could not find her front door keys and was forced to ring the doorbell, which Tatakas answered. Argentina entered the house, at which point she heard gunshots ring out from behind her. When she turned to look she noticed the two men fleeing the scene while Tatakas lay on the ground.
