A 32-year-old man is being held in Maputo’s first precinct police station, accused of stealing flip flops from a shop in the capital.
Television Miramar reports that the young man, wearing a swimming suit under his jacket, went to a store on Avenida 24 de Julho in Maputo with criminal intentions in mind.
The man had only been slipping flip-flops into his concealed costume for a short time before he was spotted and ushered off to the cells, where he is now enjoying the company of a driver detained for trying to bribe police officers.
This weekend, police in Maputo City detained four motorists for drunk driving. They face fines and a potential one-year ban.
