Mozambique: ENH expects cooking gas unit in Inhambane to start work this year

Speaking at the Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference (MMEC) in Maputo on Thursday, Chamber of Mines president Geert Klok said that the energy transition represents a big opportunity for Mozambique.
Mozambique as a country, must position itself to take advantage of the expected large increase in the demand for critical raw materials on account of the energy transition. The Mining panel at the MMEC conference highlighted the country’s abundant reserves of critical raw materials, such as graphite and lithium. These are used amongst other in the production of batteries for electric vehicles.
In order to attract further investments, Mozambique should take a long term approach. Mining companies think in decades rather than years. Therefore, investors require stability in terms of policies and legislation.
Klok also pointed out the importance of a supportive business climate. He mentioned that the Package of Economic Acceleration Measures announced by the government in 2022, does not contain any measures to improve the business climate for the mining industry specifically.
