Agriterra to sell Mozambique operations, become cash shell

Tete province, in the centre of Mozambique, knows hunger. But there is a paradox. In the northern districts there is no lack of rainfall, and agricultural production has been proceeding normally. There is even a surplus. In southern districts, however, drought is a serious problem, with farmers reaping hardly anything at all and reports of hunger clusters.
This constitutes a concern for the authorities, who are now seeking to encourage trade between the two areas.
The Provincial Director of Industry and Trade of Tete, João Feliciano Machava, says that the government is sensitizing big commercial players to back local producers and products. “All that you can, buy in Tete,” its campaign urges.
To facilitate trade, weekly agricultural and livestock fairs have been organized in areas of the province. Another promising sector focus is agro-processing, Machava told Voa.
