Seventy-two hectares of diverse crops have been devastated by elephants in Doa district, Tete province, in the last week.
The small farmers’ agricultural plots [machambas] affected are situated in areas crossed by the pachyderm corridors in the administrative posts of Chueza and Doa-sede.
According to the District Director for Economic Activities, Jerónimo Anlawe, this is the second time in less than a month that elephants have trampled production fields.
Anlawe announced that his sector would distribute seeds for a second agricultural season to about 3,000 families in order to try to recover production lost to the elephants and other pests.
