Four days after temporarily occupying – for three days – the capital of Macomia district in Cabo Delgado province, the insurgents there have now struck in Meluco district, where they beheaded five civilians.
The raid on Imbada village, in the administrative post of Unguia, occurred on Wednesday night last week (June 3).
The same village was recently the target of another attack, when four participants at a funeral ceremony were beheaded.
Sources say that, in the latest attack, the insurgents, as well as killing inhabitants, also looted various assets.
In Litamanda, Chai administrative post, Macomia district, 11 people were killed in an attack between 28 and 30 May. Sources say local residents are still too afraid to return to the village, and only go there to assess the damage and see what they can salvage.
