The terrorists of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Saturday claimed that they had killed 11 members of the Mozambican armed forces (FADM) in the district of Muidumbe, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, after an attack on an FADM position in the vicinity of the village of Miangalewa.
While the terrorists claimed the deaths of 11 Mozambican soldiers, a United Nations source, cited in Monday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Moçambique”, put the FADM death toll at 18.
Local sources told the paper that the clash occurred on Thursday night, when there was a shootout near a military position on the outskirts of Miangalewa. Villagers abandoned their homes and fled across the Messalo river to the Chai administrative post in Macomia district.
This is the second time within a week that ISIS terrorists have attacked military positions of the Mozambican forces and their Rwandan allies.
The first occasion was last week when ISIS claimed the deaths of three Rwandan soldiers who fell into an ambush near Ntotwe village, in Mocimboa da Praia district.
