Terrorism and climate change hinder goals of Non-Aligned Movement – Mozambique’s FM in Uganda

Mozambican Foreign Minister Verónica Macamo believes that the fight against terrorism and the effects of climate change are the main challenges for achieving the objectives of the Non-Aligned Movement objectives.
According to the minister, who was speaking on Thursday, at the Ministerial Meeting of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries, which is taking place in Kampala, in addition to these challenges, there is an urgent need to redouble efforts for the self-determination of peoples, and for attaining the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“In this regard, I would like to evoke our historical journey and the process of building and consolidating the Mozambican state, to offer thanks for the solidarity that Mozambique has received in the fight against the scourge of terrorism and the effects of climate change and humanitarian crises”, Macamo said.
For this reason, according to the minister, Mozambique is renewing its commitment to the cause of the Non-Aligned Movement.
“In this regard, we would like to congratulate the meeting of Senior Officials for their delivery, commitment and flexibility in negotiating the documents of this summit, particularly the drafts of the Kampala Political Declaration and the Final Document”, she said.
According to the minister, the drafts of these documents not only respond to the “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Wealth”, but also re-launch the joint commitment to promote cooperation and solidarity as instruments for finding solutions for today’s global challenges.
Mozambique, she said, calls for the right of self-determination of peoples and salutes the Non-Aligned Movement for continuing to defend international law in resolving the Palestinian conflict through agreements with Israel.
“The draft Final Document of the Summit to be presented to the Heads of State and Government meets most of the priorities of Mozambique’s vision within the framework of its mandate as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council”, she added.
