The European Union approved the tenth package of sanctions against Russia in February, on the anniversary of the invasion.
The novelty in this new package is that, for the first time, people and entities allegedly linked to propaganda are targeted, such as the Revolutionary Guard of Iran, which is involved in the supply of drones used by Russia.
In addition, the package includes stricter restrictions on the export of parts and equipment that can be used in the Russian military machine.
Agreement on the new sanctions took longer than expected to enlist all 27 member states. Sanctions require unanimous approval.
The European Union reaffirmed that it is united in supporting Ukraine and the Ukrainian people “as long as it is necessary”, even as rising prices for basic goods and oil raise fears of increasing poverty on the continent.
