Ten people died of lightning strikes in Tete province, central Mozambique, in the second half of January, authorities have announced in an assessment of the bad weather that has hit the country.
Thunderstorms, with rains and strong winds, occurred in the centre of the country when Cyclone Eloise hit on the weekend of 22 and 23 January.
According to data from the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD), in addition to lightning strikes, the heavy rainfall in the latter half of January caused floods that affected 3,300 families in areas adjacent to the Zambezi river and its tributaries.
