Ten Chinese citizens quarantined at home in Maputo province – report

Ten Chinese citizens who entered Mozambique from China via Mavalane International Airport on February 28th, are in home quarantine, according to the Provincial Director of Health in Maputo.

“So far we have no suspected cases. Since we started screening on February 4th, we have quarantined a cumulative total of 14 passengers. Since then, four have been discharged, because nothing abnormal has been detected, so we now have 10 who, if they do not show any symptoms, will be discharged by the 13th of this month,” Iolanda Tchamo explained.

Maputo province has four border crossings with South Africa, where there are already at least 13 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

The Provincial Director of Health said that the screening teams at the Ressano Garcia border post have already been strengthened, and currently number eight persons, working in eight-hour shifts.

But Iolanda Tchamo says that there are still some people who refuse to be screened.

“When there is resistance from people, we ask local authorities to help us sensitise them to the need to undergo screening,” she said.

The province of Maputo has a centre to assist people with suffering from Covid-19.
