Teenager arrested in child rape case in Sofala

On Wednesday 1 January, a 16-year-old domestic worker was arrested by the PRM in Beira (Sofala Province) on charges of rape.
According to reports, the detainee is accused of raping his employers nineyear-old niece at the house where he works.
The incident allegedly occurred at approximately 3:00hrs, when everyone in the house was asleep.
The employer subsequently noticed that her niece was walking with difficulty and asked what was wrong. On discovering that the child had been raped by her domestic worker, the employer called the police.
The detainee has since reportedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with the child,however, he claims that the encounter was ‘consensual’ and ‘instigated’ by the ‘child.
According to A erdade, the detainee would have told the police that the nine-year-old girl had approached
him earlier that day and asked him to come to her room after everyone else had gone to sleep.
The young girl allegedly charged him MT5 in exchange for sex, he would have told police.
