Thirty-seven-year-old Luis Armando Ngano is in police cells in Dondo, Sofala province, after murdering a 12-year old boy who had stolen three ears of corn from his ‘machamba’.
According to provincial police spokesman Daniel Macuácua, the child, known only as Morais, was attacked with a hoe and hit on the head and abdomen, and died on the spot.
To try and conceal his crime, Ngano dug a grave and buried the boy’s body.
The man has reportedly confessed to the crime and says that he killed the child while possessed by an evil spirit.
