Teachers in Tete province claim that the government has not been paying overtime allowances for about five months.
The National Organization of Teachers (ONP) understands that this situation, combined with the lack of communication between the education administration and teachers, may cause discontent within the profession.
The province of Tete has about 16,000 teachers in primary and secondary education. Most of them have not received any overtime pay for about five months.
The lack of communication between the education sector and teachers is seen as one of the biggest constraints to solving the problem.
The ONP in Tete is advising the education sector to make the process more flexible in order to minimise discontent within the profession.
Without revealing the actual amount owed, the ONP provincial secretary made it known that the districts of Tete, Moatize, Angónia and Cahora Bassa have the worst problem in this regard.
