A teacher from the Nhamatanda Secondary School (Sofala Province) has been arrested on charges of enticement, kidnapping and trafficking two teenage girls into prostitution.
The two victims (aged 14 and 16) were attending the Industrial and Commercial School of Beira and the Secondary
School Samora Machel. “One day this teacher called me saying he wanted to meet me, then he came to me and offered me MT500. This value was also offered my friend on the condition that she aborted her pregnancy”, said one girl.
The teacher offered the girls gifts and money until Wednesday 9 November, when he invited the girls to go for a walk
with him to Nhamatanda district. When the two victims reached the prearranged meeting spot, they were transported by vehicle to a place where they were subsequently held captive. While being held against their will, the two teenagers were reportedly forced into prostitution.
The manager of the place where the girls were reportedly held told the police that the victims’ version of events was
not entirely true as he often saw the girls walking around freely. In addition, the man said that the girls were often spotted without their alleged abductor and never seemed “to be threatened or in danger”.
The girls were subsequently rescued by the police and the abductor/teacher was apprehended.
