Mozambique: At least 26 people murdered by terrorists in June
The Mozambican police in the western province of Tete have arrested an official of the Mozambique Tax Authority (AT) on charges of kidnapping, murdering and mutilating a six year old child.
According to the spokesperson of the Tete police provincial command, Luis Nudia, the child’s body was found in the yard of the tax official’s house, in the Tete city neighbourhood of Matundo. The body was missing its genitals, teeth and fingernails.
The removal of these body parts suggests that the motive for the crime was to sell them for use in black magic rituals.
“We detained the tax official because there are strong indications that he committed this macabre crime. His detention is to guarantee the investigations, to ascertain how the child died in his house”, said Nudia. He did not release the name of the suspect.
Furious local Matundo residents, after learning of the murder and mutilation of the child, vandalized the suspect’s house, smashing the windows, and destroying all the goods they found inside the house, leaving it virtually uninhabitable.
Some citizens said nobody was living in the house, but the air conditioners were left permanently on. There were also two freezers in the house, which were switched on, but contained no food. These details were regarded as suspicious and are among the circumstances which led the police to arrest the owner.
