The PHC Software company organised an online event called “Driving the Future: Tax Machines in Mozambique” to address the main challenges of digital transition in the country, the impact that the new Tax Authority (TA) directive on the Tax Machine Management System will have on companies, and how they can prepare for the new tax reality.
According to the new TA guidelines, all companies will be obliged to issue and communicate their billing documents via the tax machines after their integration throughout the national territory.
To discuss this topic, the online session offered several speakers representing national institutions, such as President of AMPETIC, Dr Gércia Sequeira, Engineer Victor Cau of PHC Software, Engineer Edgar Chuze of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Dr Jeremias Costa of OCAM and Dr Justino Muzina of the TA.
The session argued that the introduction of fiscal machines by the TA was in complete alignment with state directives regarding the organisation of tax processes, and would bring benefits at various levels, especially in the relationship between taxpayers and the state, via the TA.
“Initiatives such as this, the largest in Mozambique with more than 500 registrants, are essential for raising the awareness of all Mozambican economic agents as to one of the biggest steps in tax standardization and digitalization,” said João Sampaio, International Business Unit Director of PHC Software.
The session, which took place on February 25th via Zoom, revealed that the experimental phase of the fiscal machine implementation in Mozambique would take place in Maputo province in April.
The model uses digitalisation to improve taxpayer management in relation to Value Added Tax (VAT) and the Simplified Tax for Small Taxpayers (ISPC). The system, which will be extended to the remaining provinces in a continuous process throughout the year, aims to increase transparency in tax returns and modernize revenue collection while simultaneously combating tax evasion.
“The implementation of the Tax Machine Management System will increase the organization of the accounting processes, and furnish greater transparency in tax declarations. It is important that Mozambican companies are prepared for the digitization process, which will have a major impact on the way they submit their tax returns,” Sampaio said.
“PHC Software considers this tax machine project an integral part of the process of Tax Authority digitisation and standardisation, and we are very proud to play our part in the modernisation of Mozambique.”
