The city of Düsseldorf, Germany, this week sees the start of Tanzmesse, the world’s largest contemporary dance market. This year, the event features a prominent participant from Mozambique – Quito Tembe, one of Africa’s most influential cultural figures.
After successfully organising the Biennale Danse L’Afrique and KINANI, Quito Tembe now embarks on this global platform. Quito is one of the current associate curators of Internationale Tanzmesse NRW, alongside Julia Asperska, Dan Daw, and Natacha Melo.
Together, they form the jury responsible for selecting the performance program and co-curating the Talk & Connect sessions. The associate curators work to expand Tanzmesse’s network by engaging in dialogue with artists, dance professionals, funding bodies, and policymakers, bringing together a wide range of voices from the sector.
Tanzmesse, now in its second edition, gathers over 1,200 curators, artists, and dance professionals from all continents, offering a unique platform for the exchange of ideas and the promotion of new artistic creations.
This edition also highlights a significant presence of professionals from the African continent and the inclusion of important performances such as Vagabundus by Idio Chichava and Hatched Ensemble by Mamela Nyamza, two of the four featured shows.
