G20 president S.Africa warns global turmoil hurts poorer nations
Three doctors and three nurses of Nyamagana district hospital in Mwanza region, have been suspended pending investigations over allegations of abandoning a pregnant mother who lost her twins due to lack of health care.
The decision was announced yesterday by Mwanza Regional Commissioner Magessa Mulongo, after a four and a half hour-long emergency meeting of the defence and security committee at the hospital’s premises. “The physician-in-Charge, Dr. William Nange and chief nurse Suzan Lumashi have also been suspended from today for failing to perform their duties to supervise their subordinates staff,” said Mr Mulongo.
Addressing hospital staff, the RC ordered the suspended staff to co-operate closely with the five-member special commission led by the acting regional medical officer, Dr Onesmo Rwekyendela to for investigating the issue.
Mr Mulongo named the suspended doctors as Dr. Norin Jandwa, Dr. Ngusa Masanja and Dr. Emilian Churinga, and the nurses are Janeth Foya, Maria Mkankule and Anna Mofya. According to Mr Mulongo, the suspended doctors and nurses were on duty the day of the event, and they are under police custody for interrogation, awaiting submission next Monday, of a report by the commission of inquiry.
