A woman is in custody on Monday after South African Revenue Service (Sars) customs officials found 10.4 kilograms of cocaine worth around R3 million in her luggage.
“Sars Customs officials intercepted a female passenger from Brazil with 10.405kg cocaine worth R2 993 519 at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday [on Sunday],” Sars said in a statement.
The woman, who was travelling to Mozambique, told the officials she did not check in any luggage.
“The passenger was escorted to the customs inspection area where it was found that she had checked in luggage with nine handbags that carried narcotics.”
Customs officials handed the woman over to the police.
