The organisation Superbrands Mozambique (SB) has, in its 5th edition, awarded its first Mozambican Brands of Excellence.
The awards, attributed to brands for excellence, go to Mozambique Electricity (EDM), Northern Development Corridor (CDN), BCI Bank, KPMG, Motorcare Nissan, Miramar, and the first personal brand awarded by Superbrands, Moreira Chonguiça.
The event also witnessed awards for the winners of a creative contest among communication students in the country’s main schools. The Best Creative Cover award went to students of the Institute of Arts and Culture (IArC), with second place going to a group of students from the Institute of Communication and Image of Mozambique (ISCIM).
Superbrands representative Patrícia Aquarelli praised Superbrands Mozambique’s role in promoting local brands through various platforms, innovative events and a focus on local content, as well as its involvement with young communication students preparing to enter the creative market.
“Brands need to gain value and, in order to do so, they need to create an arsenal of qualities that mark the territory of the brand,” she said.
Miguel Proença, another Superbrands Mozambique representative, highlighted the role of the SuperBrands initiative in internationalising Mozambican brands, placing them alongside major internationally recognised brands.
Proença closed his speech by inviting brands to be more daring and betting on the relevance of their services and products. Both Aquarelli and Proença recognised the role played by initiatives like Superbrands not only as an incentive but also as a tool for the development of emerging communicators.
The first brands awarded were evaluated by the Superbrands Council, a group of specialists in the area, which analyses brands on the basis of aspects such as market dominance, longevity, goodwill, loyalty and acceptance in the market.
In the previous edition of the awards gala, more than a dozen brands were honoured by Superbrand for their performance in the Mozambican market, including Banco Único, BCI, Barclays, Bom Garfo, CDN, Flor Real, KPMG, LM Radio, Mcel, Miramar, Motorcare, Polana Serena Hotel, Capital Magazine, South African Airways, Vodacom and Moreira Chonguiça.
