The evacuation of Mozambican nationals from Sudan is beginning, VOA Português reports. Twenty three Mozambicans stranded in Sudan will be evacuated by land to Ethiopia, while clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)continue.
The guarantee was given this Monday, 24th, by the Mozambican Government which, through the National Institute for Mozambican Communities Abroad, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, is coordinating the departure of the 22 students and a priest to Ethiopia, from where they will later be evacuated to Maputo.
Although the students were at a university which reportedly guarantees some security, they have launched a request for support from the Government in view of the precarious conditions in which they find themselves.
Some tried to join the entourage of Tanzanian students evacuated over the weekend, but failed.
Armando Muiane Júnior, director of the National Institute for Mozambican Communities Abroad, said that they will be evacuated by land and added that all aspects of security were guaranteed along the route to Addis Ababa.
Muiane Júnior assured that no Mozambican was affected by the clashes between the two alienated generals, which had already caused more than 400 deaths and millions of displaced people who had to leave the capital, Khartoum.
American embassy staffers were airlifted from Sudan early Sunday yesterday, and governments in several countries have already evacuated their citizens.
