Sixty years after achieving city status, Pemba has its first children’s playground.
In addition to the playground in Alto Gingone, one of Pemba’s largest suburban neighbourhoods, the infrastructure includes gym equipment for adults and a public health resort, the only one operating in the city.
At a cost estimated at around 1 million meticais [around US$16463 at current exchange rates], the infrastructure is the result of a private public partnership between the Pemba City Council and Êxito Energia.
The new public playground was greeted with joy, especially by parents who live in Upper Gingone and now have a place to spend time with their children.
Pemba has two public playgrounds, one of which, located in the city centre, is completely destroyed and abandoned.
